Attendance and EG

You can only miss five classes. Be careful with those... Keep that in mind.

The blog was made specifically last semester to post ones paper, get it endorsed and what not. Feel free to utilize it when crunch time comes.

Quotes!

"Many societies throughout history have upheld the value and virtue of "eye for an eye," and thus, many beautiful people walked around with empty sockets."

"The positive things about skeletons are usually dismissed, for example, without our skeletons we would all just be mushy piles of skin and organs."

"She has skeletons in her closet? Who the hell did she kill?"

"While I as in high school I held a part time job working at Starbucks. We hired a new employee who was very crude and not afraid to speak her mind. For this reason I knew this woman had something to teach me about the world. She was a heavy smoker of Newport's and despite many attempts to quit she still found herself outside on her ten minute breaks puffing away. It was a cold bitter day in Wisconsin Dells, Wisonsin and after returning from her smoke break with red, dry fingers from the unforgiving wind chill she exclaimed "It's colder than a witch's tit in January!""

"...[W]hen a woman is rejected nothing compares to her anger, not even eternal damnation."

Claim your work, if you so desire.

Another resource

If you are grappling with fallacies and warrants, you are not alone. For fallacies go to the link on the right hand side. I have a list of the fallacies in our class and some that found amusing. Each fallacy is broken down into a definition and an example. I hope that might help.

Warrants are also a difficult and fickle thing. Repetition is great way to garner a better understanding. The book's website has a great quiz that elaborates on warrants. I would encourage each of you to visit the site at lest once and utilize the resources available.

The site also has two fallacy tests but I do not think they are relevant to our class (they include fallacies that we neither know nor cover) but if you feel adventurous: go ahead.

I am here for any questions or concerns you may have. E-mail me or post on the blog.
Have a good weekend!

Reminders...

People, please, don't be late to class. Show up before the bell finishes and the class will function a lot better. I will be happy. Tracy will be happy. Being punctual is one of those fine issues that drive me nuts. Serial tardiness makes me cringe.

I beg of you, do not show up late. Once a month, fine, that's okay. If I can't remember the last time you show up late then that's fantastic...But once or twice a week. COME ON! If your bus is always late take an early one.

And, just for further reference, avoid leaving early.

I am not reprimanding you...I am warning you. Lateness doesn't portend to clear skies.

You make me proud!

Tone was not a major issue on the RPs, people! You have no idea how happy that makes me...somebody out there is actually reading this blog. I shudder at the thought. All of a sudden I feel useful. I bow to you all.
*Bowing deeply*
Okay, now for harsh facts: please read the instructions carefully, so closely you might be able to repeat them verbatim; when citing sources (some of you forgot to do that!)  remember to use MLA--in the sidebar there is a wonderful site to assist with that (knightcite)--and don't cower away from quotation. Quoting is a beautiful practice... And in this class it is near compulsory. Keep those things in mind.
MORE FUN STUFF...
For the remainder of the semester, should I come across sentences that make me tear up and renew my faith in humanity I will post them. These are beautiful pieces of prose here, and they ought to be shared with the world. I will post them anonymously (to save identities and fragile egos) and leave it up to each student individually to claim his/her own work.

Uncle Sco Wants You...to Join this Group!

This is an experiment... I have invited the entire class to write all over this blog. If there is anything that needs answerin': post. Feel free to keep the advertisements to a minimum.

At the end of this blog use the comment function to indicate your Endorsement Group. Get close to the people in your group. Buddy up. Make lasting impressions... Or just indicate what group you are in. That'll suffice.

Now to break my rule and advertise:
THE WRITING CENTER IS OPEN! It's the most fantastic place on earth (better than Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory) and there are people who want to help you!
I work there, Kari works there...
Enough said.

It is open: Monday through Thursday 2-4; 6-8 and Friday 10-2

For this shameless plug I will allow one of you to beat me with a bamboo pole. It has to be spontaneous. I'll be watching out.

Rhetorical Precis and the External Project

RP are seemingly restrictive. I understand how frustrating they tend to be when only four sentences are allowed. The first time I got an incomplete. I forgot tone. Please don't forget it. It drove me insane to get a continual and constant flow of incompletes, if I had only been more scrupulous I would have done well on the first RP. Also, utilize semicolons, dashes and parenthesis. Try and vary your writing. I will help where I can. Every single question will be answered.
The External Project is a personal favorite of mine. I was indecisive most of the semester on what I was going to do, and for a long while I settled on The Kite Runner. But as the deadline approached, and I had been required to read a plethora of novels for other classes, I decided that the seed wiki was a better choice. There are links to the side of other students pages. I did fallacies (only my single favorite portion of this class).------>

Since it has been required that you visit this site I feel like I should be doing more. Any questions, any whatsoever, send them my way. If there is something I could be doing to better aid you tell me. I will do anything short of plagarism. I have posted my e-mail enough on this site but one more time cannot hurt: dsm31.
Constructive feedback for the site, any questions, any comments are welcome.
Thanks
